Make It Count!

Things I have realized since I have started to use my BodyMedia Fit arm band:

  1. If I drink 2 full bottles of water I will reach the suggested water intake of 8 glasses of water a day.
    That isn't that bad.
  2. Drinking from a straw really does help!
    No joke - Try it!
  3. I eat way to many carbs, sodium, and fats.
Damn pie charts showing me the truth!
  4. The days I work out I am 'on a weight loss trend' according to the BodyMedia footnotes.
    This is great!
  5. The days I do not work out I am 'on a weight gain trend' according to the BodyMedia footnotes.
I guess I need to do something everyday to balance out what I am eating and not burning off.
  6. I love seeing the calories burned bar charts. It shows you what level of fitness and how much you push yourself.
Umph My Spin class is only a moderate level when it is that suck ass instructor I go to. When I jogged outside it was vigorous levels!?!
  7. I really need to limit my Starbucks drinks to nothing!
If I have one it makes me want more the rest of the week.
  8. I have to stick to a completely NO carb diet. I feel better. I see results.
I gotta get back on track to 6 days on and 1 day off. It was great.
  9. I love making lists!
From to-do's, grocery lists, taking notes, you name it - I have a list for it!

So... what I need to do with logging my foods and exercise on the BodyFit media arm band, I also need to keep up with my increased water intake, Go back to The 4 Hour Body diet of 6 days on and 1 day off, and be active everyday and MAKE IT COUNT! Time to stop talking about it and just do the dang thing!

Goal for this week: Stick my money where my mouth is!

Junk Food Mania

Back from vacation and relaxed and recharged. I think I ate my way thru it too. I had protein shakes, water, beef jerky and a banana all packed up for my road trip. I snacked on some of it but mainly I stopped to eat along the way. To and from. I would list all that I ate but I will keep that secret since it is so bad.
Lets give you some examples.... In-N-Out, Taco Bell, Cinnabun, Jack In The Box .... It makes my stomach churn in self disgust!

You should be proud of me since I did log everyday into my food log. Even the bad stuff. It is such a great tool that it showed me that I gained like 2 pounds in 5 days! I just fell back into an old pattern. I don't know why I do that to myself. Maybe it is the comfort for traveling. But there has to be a reason why? Maybe since I was traveling that no one else by me would know what I ate... not too sure. It is very self destructive behavior.

On that note... I am back into recovery mode and working out. (Sigh) Back to eating no carbs for 6 days and then 1 free day. I feel that this is a great way to keep going. I dont have to think about it - it is becoming more natural.

One thing that I am really going to start making more of an effort to do is to drink more water. I am lacking in energy and need to get my body back on track. Flush the body of the junk food! I am thinking of buying a water bottle that has a straw.

Does anyone feel that drinking from a straw makes you drink more water thru the day?

Goal for this week: Buy a cool water bottle - Drink 10x's more water!

Weight for today: I bow my head in shame but my scale did read 200.2 this morning. Eak!

BodyMedia first few days....

First things first...
Here is a funny photo of me trying on my boyfriend's MEDIUM jacket...
and the sigh of relief it REALLY fit!

I am loving my BodyMedia arm band. I started to wear it Thursday and it has been exciting to see the results today when I plugged it in. I figured doing the first week without any changes in my behavior or diet would give me a good solid record to learn from and move forward making changes afterwards. Main Result: I eat way to much on the weekends!

Here is a sample from this past weekend. I am logging anything and everything. I am even taking note of the amount of water I drink. There should be a check box or something to keep track of this but I am just adding it in the time of day even though it gives me no calorie changes. More for my own personal records. You can even see how lazy I was Saturday and Sunday!

This week I am going to start making some changes and stick to the calorie limit. I think this will be hard since I am going on a vacation for 5 days. I am gonna track the whole time even it isn't the best foods.

I also haven't updated the weight since I had not weighted in yet. But I did weight 198.6 on Thursday. I doubt I lost any and with menstruation time... you know how that goes.

I highly recommend this product to anyone who needs to have more guidance. I can see this being a great tool to learn from and get serious about loosing some LBS!

Goal for this week: Don't go crazy on eating out while on vacation

Seeing Results

Follow up on The 4hour body Slow Carb diet:
It is becoming easier to stick to the no-carbs than I thought. I like having the free day once a week. It makes me feel like I am not suffering or suppressing any major cravings. Granted I do give into having soy milk and my morning Chai or Mocha. If I don't have one in the morning it isn't life or death now. I am realizing this. Sounds kind of lame but stopping a daily habit is hard to break. Especially one that tastes so good on a cold morning.

Since my first PB last week, I am also eating slower. Thinking about the texture and if I really need to eat it. Doing this No-Carb plan is really helping me regain control. Making me think about what I am eating. PLUS I am seeing major results. My thighs, arms, chest and tummy are getting smaller. I see the results in less than 2 weeks! It is much easier to keep doing this when you see the difference.

I checked the ship date on my BodyMedia arm band and it states it should arrive by Thursday. I am very excited to get to using it. I am very curious to see what the difference is on my calories burned and logging my food thru this program versus the generic Tap&Track I log thru now. Sometimes I feel that the calories aren't accurate to my eating and cardio. I plan to get every penny worth of this Bodymedia band. Making it a good habit!

Goal for this week: Argh, I suck at taking my vitamins! I have to be better at this!

BodyMedia

I just ordered my bodymedia band thru Costco today. There is an online special discount reducing the prince to $140 until March 12th. I have been keeping an eye on this and figured it was a great deal.

I bought a New Balance watch heart rate monitor/pedometer. I am going to return it since the watch was huge and the version I purchased doesn't track calories. The watches just aren't enough data to collect that is accurate. I think that the BodyMedia version is what I am looking for that will work with my lifestyle... and I can easily hide it under my sleeve instead of wearing a man sized watch all the time.

Now I have to wait for it to be shipped...

First PB

I have made it 1 year and 4 months without PB'ing until today. I have never experienced something so bizarre.

I had 2 slices of turkey deli meat since all I had today was some soy milk so I can have my daily benifiber. I ate kinda fast and didn't chew any different than normal. Within 2 minutes I felt really tight and knew it was having more trouble going down. My teeth started to ache and my eyes and mouth started to water. I figured it would pass if I kept burping. I have done this before and it seemed to work with the pressure. I burped a few times and decided to walk around since it wasn't helping. Now I am at work, a very quiet office. If I threw up loud someone would hear me. So I just stood and burped in the bathroom just in case I burped too loud. I felt a little better and decided I could just continue to walk around and get some fresh air.

I walked to my car and got ready to leave until I needed to spit. I sat there with my car door open spitting out the door. Not cute. I didn't want to throw up in front of my work so I went back into the bathroom to the stall. I stood there trying to burp harder. I ended up spitting up some frothy spit. This I have not had before. It surprised me since I didn't feel it coming up. Then I had like a huge air bubble of spit come up. I guess this is what PBing is. I felt instantly better and proceeded to get back into my car to run my errand.

Half way to my destination that is only 3 miles away, my mouth started to water and the pressure began to build up. Now it is lunch time on a sunny day near the beach, so everyone was out. I ended up driving a few more blocks and pulled off to a side street lined with houses. I spit out of the car door here too. I needed something better so I looked in my trunk and found an old 7-11 Iced Mocha clear plastic cup. Thank god for not cleaning my car because I was so thankful that this cup was in there! I sat in my car for 10 minutes burping and spitting into this cup. Once more a big surprising air bubble of spit came up. I look over to the side of me and 2 people walked by with their dogs and then the gardener of the house I was sitting in front of kept working his way closer to me. I knew it was time to bolt. My windows are only so tinted so these people could see me.

I drove a few more blocks to my stop. I spit once more into my cup and got out of the car to quickly stop  in to pick up what I needed at this location. A quick run in and out just in time to frothy spit into the cup again... NOPE There was a small line so I had to wait. I usually stay and talk with the rep but I just said 'Thank You' really low and sped outta there. I was afraid if I opened my mouth some of that surprising air bubble spit would shoot out at them! I got back into the car and made it around the corner and out of sight before I spit in my cup again holing whatever I had in my mouth until then. Headed back to work I thankfully didn't have to pull over.

I grabbed my spit cup and my stuff and headed back into work. Threw away the cup as I walked in. Now I feel the pressure is slowly going away. I haven't spit since I got back into the office. What a crazy experience. I haven't felt much restriction recently and then all of a sudden I have it!?! Definitely not even hungry after all of that.

YUCK!

"Very New York"

Had an amazing weekend and I am not paying for it at all. I had a huge family event with a lot of out of town family and a wedding. It was so much fun but of course revolves around food... like most family events can.

I ate out most of the weekend and yet I did okay with what I ate. I think. Friday I ate a brewery and I had salad, veggies and 3 ribs. I have the hardest time not drinking ice tea or water when I am eating out. Everyone else has a drink and it just a habit hard to break. Saturday was my free day off of no carbs. Didn't go hog wild and ate pretty decent until dinner. The wedding I went to was Italian-ish so they served the dishes family style and were all pastas. The dinner portion control was up to me and I did great by only putting small amounts of each. I even ate gelato. I had to stop there since even thought it was GREAT it upset my stomach. I got ahead of myself. Sunday was followed up with a family brunch. Amazing spread and amazing bread pudding. I ate too much and didn't eat the remaining of the day. It is amazing how much more I can eat when  drink with a meal. It is a killer for a bandster! Made up for any wrong choices by dancing my butt of at the wedding and making sure I went to the gym before going to do family events.

The best thing that happened this weekend was not only feeling in control of what I was eating. But the complements I kept getting. About my glasses, hair, skin, weight loss, and how beautiful I looked. Some of the people I saw this weekend had't seen me in over a year so some were excited and shocked I lost weight. One of my cousin's who is into fashion told me I looked  'Very New York'. I will take that complement. Anyone I talked to had gave me a complement. This NEVER happens. It felt AWESOME! Just gives me a little boost to keep on truckin' and working on myself.

The Spanx helped too.... my first ever owned. It kept me warm in the low temps and rainy weather. Gave me a bit of confidence by sliming all the curves out. No lines. Didn't know they were crotchless either! Scandalous Spanx designers!

My goal I had last made was to loose 10 pounds by this date. I didn't do it. But with the no-carb diet I think I have slimming down. It gives the illusion I lost some but it was more inches than anything. I am going to keep up with the no-carb for 6 days on - 1 day off. It is giving me a lot more energy. Can't get lazy - I am on a roll.

Goal for this week: Gotta get back to taking my vitamins!

My Weaknesses

I confess that my weaknesses are sweets.
I have a serious sweet tooth that is ever more present after being banded. I am posting this today so when I look back I will remember my struggles and being on this no-card diet I have chose to do. It is a mental struggle to rid my sweet tooth so there are times I give in. THESE My Friends, are my comforts - my sweet tooth choices.

Drum roll please...

And a formal introduction to...
7-11 Iced Mocha - 8 ounces = 140 cal
Chocolate Doughnuts - 1 large = 250 cal
Starbucks Soy Chai - Grande = 230 cal
Vanilla Soymilk - 1 cup = 90 cal
Trader Joe's Powerberries - 1/4 cup = 180 cal

All are easy to eat/drink banded - they slip right thru. I know soy milk isn't really that bad but when you constantly drink it - it adds up. I wanted to see how many calories were in each of these sinful treats of mine... I came across FatSecret.
A great site to check out is called FatSecret. It lists a large selection of nutritional facts for anything your heart desires! Check it out.

I really want to get to 190 and these damn things are in my way!

No Carbs: Week 2

The past two weeks I have been doing my no carb diet and it is proving to be a good thing. I thought I would feel like I was suffering or crazy at some point. The scale moved down a lot the first week to 194 but this week it is back up to 198. I think I am in my cycle soon. But the BIGGEST difference is that my pants are looser and my scale states my fat percentage and that is even going down. I notice my thighs and waist are slimming down. It is a great feeling. My body is changing even if the number on the scale isn't. My tummy is getting flatter, My muffin tops are gone, my face is slimming down.... I am going to do this for another 2 weeks.

6 days of no-carb, 1 day a free day.

I realized this past week:
1. Having a free day/Eating un healthy foods and going to the gym can't happen in the same day. I felt so sluggish and was tired really quick.

2. Learning to listen to my body and having more energy when doing no carbs is great! I push myself harder at the gym. I don't get tired.

3. The hardest thing the past two weeks was to resist having my morning Chai or Mocha. I am addicted to having something. It is loaded with sugar and is just bad in so many ways. Must resist!

4. I also have a serious sweet tooth since being banded. I can't give in - if not it ends up bad and I eat something way to sugary. There were a few occasions I gave in.

Goal for this week: Keep up this motivation!
